Section titled “The guide”Zigbee is ALYT’s built-in local connector for light, switch, sensor, lock, and button devices. There is nothing to type: choosing Let devices join opens the Zigbee network for 120 seconds, and supported devices join while that window is open. Because this connector is local, paired devices can keep working during a cloud outage, but pairing and control still depend on the home’s Zigbee radio path being available.
Connect and pair devices
Section titled “Connect and pair devices”Zigbee uses discover, not a form. In the household app, choose Let devices join, pick the brand and device family when offered, and start pairing. The network accepts new devices for two minutes. Devices appear as they join, and the household can name them and assign a room.
For a new device that has never been on another hub, the guide often says to power it on or put it into pairing mode and wait. A device that already belongs to another hub usually needs a physical reset before it can join this one.
Brand-specific notes that matter:
- Philips Hue bulbs can often join by powering them while the window is open. If the bulb is on another hub, use the
reset-by-serialaction with the 6-character code printed on the bulb, or remove it from the old hub first. In Alexa or Hue, that removal is a Delete operation in the old app. - Aqara vibration sensor
DJT11LMpairs after holding the reset button for about 5 seconds until the light flashes three times. Missingbatterydata at first does not mean pairing failed. - Kwikset SmartCode locks pair with the door open. On the 910, press button A four times; on the 914 and 916, once. The 910 works. The 916 touchscreen joins and then drops after being read.
- GE and Enbrighten devices may pair as part of their reset gesture. For plug-in models, holding the button more than 4 seconds after plugging in does not reset them.
- Shelly four-button remotes and wall switches start steering after pressing any button five times. Factory reset works only within the first 3 minutes after inserting the battery.
- SONOFF
SNZB-01PandSNZB-01Menter pairing mode by holding the reset button for 5 seconds. The one-buttonSNZB-01Pdoes not use a ten-second hardware reset; factory reset is through Delete in eWeLink.
What Zigbee devices expose
Section titled “What Zigbee devices expose”ALYT maps Zigbee devices by what they report:
- Lights can expose power, brightness, colour temperature, and colour, depending on the model.
- Switches expose power.
- Sensors can expose readings such as temperature, humidity, motion, contact, leak, smoke, carbon monoxide, illuminance, air quality, and
battery. - Locks expose locked state and jammed state when reported.
- Buttons expose press events, button counts, and gestures when the device’s action values support them.
Zigbee devices also report changes without polling. That is why wall switches, remotes, and sensors update quickly when they publish a new state.
Supported limits and behavior
Section titled “Supported limits and behavior”A disconnect forgets paired things and they have to be paired again; the radio stays.
Model-specific limits still apply:
- Multi-gang switches with states such as first and second gang are currently treated as one switch on the first gang.
- ALYT does not manage Zigbee lock PIN codes.
- Device OTA updates are not provided through ALYT.
- A device arrives unassigned to a room until the household places it.
For locks, a write is not treated as complete until the lock reports the resulting state. If a lock reports that it is not fully locked, ALYT treats it as jammed rather than retrying. Devices in Home Security keep their membership when recovered through Reconnect.
Reconnect, removal, and failure checks
Section titled “Reconnect, removal, and failure checks”Use Reconnect when the household still has the same device and wants ALYT to wait for it to come back. Reconnect keeps the existing thing, room, routine references, and Home Security membership. It waits for the same device to announce or report again and then reapplies its configuration.
If the household removes a device entirely, use Delete. Removal also removes its actions from routines and its Home Security membership. If the device does not confirm that it left the network, ALYT can require explicit local removal and acceptance that a physical reset will be needed before the device can join again.
When pairing or control fails, check:
- the 120-second join window is still open
- the device is powered and in pairing mode
- the device is not still attached to another hub
- the hub radio path is available
- for sleepy battery devices, recent state may be the last reported state rather than a fresh read
For sleeping sensors, locks, and buttons, ALYT does not rely on repeated reads. Their last report stands until the device wakes and reports again.
