The guide

Apple TV connects through ALYT’s native TV setup and stays local once paired. You install ALYT on the TV, then open ALYT on a phone or computer, go to Settings → TV, enter the code shown on the TV, and choose the room. The TV gets a dedicated home-scoped surface credential, not a homeowner refresh token or reusable camera-provider credentials. The connection is tied to the current home and room, and you can remove it later from Settings → TV, which revokes the current connection and clears local state even if the server is unavailable.

Connection and access

This connector uses local connectivity. It does not depend on a cloud provider for normal operation after pairing, so it can keep working during a cloud outage as long as the local TV app remains available. A current homeowner completes pairing and chooses the room. Room membership provides the voice destination used by TV requests. Credentials are revocable individually.

A household user has narrower access than staff. The ordinary initiating account must still belong to the home. For live use, permissions remain bound to the installed connector and current home. If you disconnect the TV, access ends for that screen.

What it exposes

The TV app presents a shared dashboard with Home, Rooms, Cameras, and Settings. A remote user sees visible focus, large cards, and light or dark themes. The connector supports scoped pairing and camera presentation. Camera requests may target a selected camera, and the system resolves the destination room from the selected TV or from the active hearing device’s room when no explicit TV is chosen.

For playback, the TV foreground poll receives a short-lived, single-camera HLS viewing ticket. Each playlist and segment checks the current home, camera, grant, room configuration, and deadline. If any of those change, the view fails closed. Audio starts muted. Playback stops at the absolute deadline.

Voice and room rules

Voice requests can name a camera and a destination room. An explicit TV wins over a room. If no TV is named, the system resolves the hearing device’s current room inside the exact home. Multiple TVs require a choice. A private camera is never broadcast to every screen. Duplicate camera names are refused until they are distinct. If a voice request says “this camera” without selected-camera context, the camera name must be present.

The receiving TV’s current permission stays authoritative for media reads. Request acknowledgement means the view is requested, not a confirmed decoded frame or a woken TV.

What it cannot do

A foreground TV app cannot guarantee waking a suspended TV or replacing another app. The current implementation does not assume an unconditional power-toggle path or a Wake-on-LAN fallback. Network standby, HDMI-CEC, and wake behavior must be verified on the actual model.

Direct Cast or AirPlay without the ALYT receiver is a separate transport and needs codec, session, app registration, and interruption/restore acceptance. HLS support does not prove every camera codec, and stopping a view does not promise restoring the previous programme.

When setup or playback fails

Check that ALYT is installed on the TV, the code is current, and the TV is linked to the intended room. Confirm the TV still belongs to the home and that the connection was not removed in Settings → TV. If playback fails, check the selected camera, the current grant, the room configuration, and the deadline. If the TV changed state, went idle, or lost permission, the ticket expires and the view ends.

If voice control cannot find a target, check for duplicate camera names, missing selected-camera context, or an explicit TV that conflicts with the chosen room. For a waking or launch problem, verify the model’s supported standby and launch behavior on-site rather than assuming the TV can be turned on remotely.
