GE Cync

What it adds to a house
Section titled “What it adds to a house”adds lights and switches.
How a person connects it
Section titled “How a person connects it”Method: signIn. Sign in with the Cync account; Cync then emails a code, which is asked for next. The password is used once and never kept. This connection uses Cync’s cloud and needs internet access.
| Field | Kind | Required |
|---|---|---|
Cync account email (email) | yes | |
Cync account password (password) | password, secret | yes |
What it can look for
Section titled “What it can look for”Yes: “Look for Cync devices”.
What stops working when it is disconnected
Section titled “What stops working when it is disconnected”The things it brought stop answering until it is connected again.

Section titled “The guide”GE Cync is a cloud connector for Cync lights, dimmers, plugs, and switches. The household signs in with its Cync account, completes the emailed code step, discovers devices from the account’s homes and rooms, and then reads and controls them through Cync’s cloud relay. This connector needs internet access and the Cync service. If that cloud path is unavailable, Cync devices do not answer through ALYT.
Connect and discovery
Section titled “Connect and discovery”To connect, the household enters the Cync account email and password, then enters the code that Cync emails. The code must be entered within ten minutes, and each code is valid only for the sign-in that requested it. The password is used once and never kept; ALYT stores the resulting Cync session instead.
After connection, run Look for Cync devices. Discovery lists the account’s homes and devices again and creates endpoints in the room name that Cync reports. Supported devices arrive as lights or switches:
- bulbs, strips, and dimmers as
light - plugs and switches as
switch
What it exposes
Section titled “What it exposes”Lights
Section titled “Lights”Supported Cync light-family devices expose:
- power
- brightness
- color temperature
- color, when the device reports color
Color temperature is mapped to 2000 to 7000 K. This is a linear mapping to Cync’s own scale, and a specific bulb’s real range can be narrower.
Switches
Section titled “Switches”Supported plugs and switches expose switch state through switch.
State and control behavior
Section titled “State and control behavior”ALYT keeps one relay session per Cync account and reuses it for reads and writes. State reads use recently seen device reports when they are fresh enough; otherwise ALYT asks the home for a status update through a Wi-Fi-capable Cync device. A cached state can be used when the session has seen the device within the last 45 seconds.
Writes are sent exactly once and are confirmed only when the target device reports the requested state after the write. A relay acknowledgement alone does not count as success. If the device does not confirm within 8 seconds, the write fails. Supported light controls include power, brightness, color temperature, and RGB color.
Important limits
Section titled “Important limits”- This is a cloud connector. Every read and write goes through Cync’s cloud and relay.
- The Cync app and ALYT compete for the same account relay session. If the app takes the account, ALYT reconnects later rather than immediately fighting for it.
- After the relay ends a session, ALYT waits at least 10 seconds before logging in again.
- Unsupported Cync device types are skipped. This includes devices not described as lights, plugs, or switches, such as thermostats, cameras, fan switches, remotes, and sensors.
- Wire-free switches that are battery remotes with no load of their own are not recorded as controllable endpoints.
When it fails
Section titled “When it fails”Check these points first:
- The Cync account email and password are correct.
- The emailed code is the newest one requested, and it is entered within ten minutes.
- The device still appears in the Cync account and, if needed, discovery has been run again.
- The device’s home has at least one Wi-Fi-capable Cync device online to carry status and commands into the mesh.
- Internet access and the Cync cloud are available.
A transient relay disconnect does not itself require the household to sign in again. Reconnect is automatic. A new sign-in is only needed when the stored Cync session becomes unusable.
For state reads, a busy or deferred answer means ALYT did not ask the home at all at that moment. It is not evidence that the device is offline. For control, a limit refusal returns an error before anything is sent.
