What it adds to a house
Section titled “What it adds to a house”adds lights.
How a person connects it
Section titled “How a person connects it”Method: discover. Connect the device to Wi-Fi and enable LAN control first. Your updated ALYT Hub finds compatible devices on its network. Matter products use Matter setup; Bluetooth-only and cloud-only products are not part of this local connection.
What it can look for
Section titled “What it can look for”Yes: “Look for devices”.
What stops working when it is disconnected
Section titled “What stops working when it is disconnected”The things it brought stop answering until it is connected again.
The descriptor
Section titled “The descriptor”Connection fields are served for a program at /connectors/govee.json.

Section titled “The guide”ALYT connects Govee as a local light integration. The home’s Hub discovers source-listed compatible LAN models on the home network, and the connector exposes only the declared light controls that the device reports. Matter products use ALYT’s Matter setup instead, and Bluetooth-only or cloud-only products do not belong to this local connector.
Connect and use
Section titled “Connect and use”In the app, choose the correct home, then add Govee through Connect and look or Look for devices. For the first connection, use Add a device → Connect something new → Govee, then scan. You can scan again with Look for devices if the product does not appear at first. A discovered device shows its model identifier, then you name it and place it in a room. Rediscovery preserves the device’s room assignment.
The product must already be on Wi‑Fi with LAN control enabled and reachable from the Hub. This connector does not provision Wi‑Fi, collect Wi‑Fi credentials, or turn on LAN control for you. Do not reset an installed device to search for it. If the same physical device is a Matter product, use the existing Matter setup and do not add it twice.
If LAN control is missing, first power the product off and on, wait about 30 minutes, and check again. If it still does not answer, contact Govee support. Waiting longer is not a verified activation method.
What it exposes
Section titled “What it exposes”This connector brings light capability only. The normal controls are the ones the local profile allows: power, brightness, colour, and, where supported, colour temperature. Capabilities are source-listed, so ALYT uses the model’s declared local capability bounds rather than guessing broader support. state is device-reported.
Supported operation depends on the installed profile. Brightness uses values from 0 to 100, with 0 mapping to off. Colour uses hue from 0 to 360 and saturation from 0 to 100. Colour temperature is available only when the profile supports it and only within the model’s declared range.
What it cannot do
Section titled “What it cannot do”This connector does not expose segments, music, proprietary scenes, or non-light appliance controls. Cloud-only appliance categories are unavailable through this local path, and no Bluetooth fallback is enabled here. Unknown models appear as unsupported and do not gain guessed controls.
Govee cloud commands, factory Wi‑Fi setup, and LAN activation are outside this connector. If a product is not already enrolled on Wi‑Fi with LAN control enabled, it cannot be brought online here.
Readiness and discovery
Section titled “Readiness and discovery”Discovery reads the home Hub, so the Hub must be online and able to report Govee capability support. If a device is missing, check power, Wi‑Fi enrollment, and LAN control, then run Look for devices again. If the Hub asks for an update, install the compatible update before retrying.
Rediscovery keeps the device’s stable identity while updating its address and current room settings. If a device’s address changes, rediscover it. A scan with no answer does not prove that the model is unsupported; it can also mean the local API is disabled, the device is unreachable, or the revision is not admitted.
Access and limits
Section titled “Access and limits”Household permissions apply to the home where the device is installed. DEV credentials act in the developer sandbox. LIVE credentials only manage the connector installed in that live home. This connector is local, so it can keep working during a cloud outage, but only while the Hub, the home network, and the device remain reachable.
Failure checks
Section titled “Failure checks”If a control does not work, confirm that the device is on Wi‑Fi, LAN control is enabled, and the Hub can still discover it. If discovery succeeds but control does not, the device may have a profile mismatch or an unsupported hardware revision. If the device was previously connected through another path, remove the duplicate route rather than creating a second entry here.
When in doubt, rediscover from the home’s Add device flow and verify that the model identifier matches the physical product before saving it.
